Understanding Charging Session Limits

Charging session limits help manage charger availability at high-demand locations by setting maximum duration or energy consumption thresholds. These limits apply to all transaction types including app-based charging, Scan to Charge, and RFID transactions.

Setting Up Session Limits

To configure charging session limits:

  • Navigate to the Energy tab.

  • Click on Add ("+" sign) or Edit from the 3-dot menu in the back office, then select the "Energy management" section from the left menu.

  • Locate the Charging Session Limit option

  • Select your preferred limit type: No Limit (default), Time Limit (minutes), or Energy Limit (kWh)

  • Enter the maximum allowed value in minutes or kWh

  • Optional: Enable the Ignore Limit for Priority Drivers toggle for essential users

Driver Notifications

The system automatically notifies drivers when they reach session limits through multiple channels:

In-App Notifications

  • Push notification alerts when limits are reached

  • Charging Limit Reached screen appears in the app

  • Example message: "Charging limit of 180 minutes reached. Please vacate the spot to let others charge."

SMS Notifications for Scan to Charge

  • SMS alert is sent when limits are reached

  • Example message: "Charging limit of 10 kWh reached. Please vacate the spot."

Important Considerations

Session limits help maintain fair access to charging stations by:

  • Preventing extended charging sessions that block other users

  • Supporting multiple charging transaction types, including app, Scan to Charge, and RFID.

  • Providing priority override options for essential users

  • Sending timely notifications to drivers

Note: When implementing session limits on AC chargers, idle fees should not be applied. Idle fee charges only apply if a vehicle completes charging before reaching the set limit.
