Why Can't I Start Charging on This Charger?

What the message on a charger's details screen means when you can't start charging, and what to do next.

You can open any charger in a site's charger list, whatever its status. The details screen shows the charger's name, connector type and rate, together with a message explaining its current state.

When the Start charging button appears

Start charging appears only when a session can actually start: when the charger is Available or Preparing, or when it is a roaming charger that allows starting a session. In every other state the button is hidden and the message explains why.

What the messages mean

  • The charger is closed to your account – the message explains how to request access.

  • Your access starts later – the message shows the time the charger becomes available to you.

  • The charger is busy, reserved or already in use – the message says so.

  • The charger is offline, faulted, unavailable, not yet commissioned or in an unknown state – each of these has its own message with guidance.

  • Every charger at the site is offline – one message for the whole site replaces the message for each charger.

Chargers with time-based access

Some chargers change who can use them by time of day. On these chargers you see a short label showing your current access and when it changes, for example "Available until 18:00", "Available from 18:00" or "Not available to you." Another driver may see a different label on the same charger. If you are already charging when the access changes, your session continues until you stop it.

Where to find it

Mobile app → site charger list → tap a charger
