What is Vehicle Pairing?
Vehicle pairing allows admins to link a driver’s EV directly to their user profile in the back office. Once paired, the vehicle’s Auto Charge Identifier (such as the MAC address) is stored and used to authenticate charging sessions.
This means drivers can start a charging session simply by plugging into a supported charger — no app, RFID card, or manual action required.
When to Use Vehicle Pairing
This option is especially useful when drivers may not be present or when authentication needs to be automatic:
Fleet operations where vehicles are shared among multiple drivers
Company or residential pool cars with billing tracked per vehicle
Unattended depots or public chargers where the vehicle initiates the session
How to Pair a Vehicle with a User
Follow these steps in the back office:
Go to the Users tab.
Open the 3-dots menu next to the relevant user.
Select Assets → Vehicles.
Click Add Vehicle and:
Enter the license plate.
Click Pair to start the pairing process:
Select a charger from the list.
Plug in the EV. The system retrieves the identifier automatically.
Once paired, the identifier is stored as read-only and will be used to authenticate future charging sessions for that vehicle.
Back Office Visibility
Users tab:
A Vehicles column shows license plates linked to each user (hidden by default and excluded from exports for security).Transactions tab:
An Origin value: Auto charge appears when sessions are initiated via the vehicle identifier.
A hidden Vehicle field (license plate) can be displayed.
If the user has only one vehicle, it is automatically assigned to transactions, even if the session was not started with Auto Charge .
FAQs
Can a vehicle be paired with multiple users?
No. Each vehicle is tied to a single user profile to ensure billing accuracy.
What happens if a driver replaces their car?
Admins can add the new vehicle in the Users → Vehicles menu. The previous identifier remains on record but can no longer be used for authentication.
Do all chargers support Auto Charge Identifier?
Only supported DC chargers can automatically retrieve the identifier when the EV is plugged in. Check with your operator to confirm compatibility.
